Metformin (pr) 500 mg + glimepiride 2 mg is an oral medicine belonging to the category of antidiabetic drugs and is used for the treatment of Type 2 Diabetes mellitus.
Metformin and glimepiride work together to help control blood sugar in people with type 2 diabetes. Metformin reduces the amount of sugar produced by the liver and helps the body’s muscles use insulin more effectively. Glimepiride stimulates the pancreas to release more insulin, allowing sugar to move from the blood into the cells. Together, they help lower and maintain healthy blood sugar levels.
The safety of Metformin and glimepiride in pregnancy is not established. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to conceive
Metformin and glimepiride pass into breast milk. Consult your healthcare provider about whether to continue breastfeeding or not
Patients suffering from kidney and liver problems are more prone to kidney and liver damage, as the drug is made into a less toxic form in the liver and kidney, so consult a doctor before using it.
Alcohol and smoking can simultaneously affect the drug’s action and show an effect on blood glucose levels by affecting the liver and pancreas. It can sometimes increase blood sugar levels and sometimes decrease blood sugar levels.
Avoid taking Metformin and Glimepiride combination with the following medicines, as it may increase or decrease the desired effect, or in worse cases, it could be fatal:
Metformin- N, N-dimethylimidodicarbonimidic diamide

Glimepiride—3‑Ethyl‑4‑methyl‑N‑[2‑(4‑{[(trans‑4‑methylcyclohexyl) carbamoyl] sulfamoyl} phenyl)ethyl]‑2‑oxo‑2,5‑dihydro‑1H‑pyrrole‑1‑carboxamide

Take metformin and glimepiride exactly as your doctor recommends. The dose may change based on your condition and how well you respond. Do not take more than prescribed without consulting your doctor.
If you forget to take your medicine, take the medication as soon as you remember. If it’s nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue with your regular schedule. Always consult the doctor before making any changes to your dosage.
It is not recommended to take more than 4000 mg of metformin and 16 mg of glimepiride per day, as it may cause severe overdosing effects like extreme drowsiness, confusion, low blood pressure, unconsciousness, sweating, and seizures. Immediately give the patient fruit or glucose-containing liquids and sugary foods to minimize the effects. If you face any of the severe effects, take him to the doctor.
Metformin + Glimepiride is a combination anti‑diabetic medicine (metformin, a biguanide, and glimepiride, a sulfonylurea) used to manage type 2 diabetes when diet and exercise alone are insufficient. It works as a two‑way helper: metformin lowers sugar made by the liver and improves insulin use, while glimepiride stimulates the pancreas to release more insulin. Common side effects include stomach upset, nausea, diarrhea, dizziness, headache, and low blood sugar if meals are missed. It should be taken with food to reduce stomach irritation and hypoglycemia risk, while alcohol should be avoided due to the chance of lactic acidosis.
Metformin and glimepiride combination tablets are used to control type 2 diabetes when single‑drug therapy is not enough. They work together by reducing sugar made by the liver, improving insulin use, and boosting insulin release from the pancreas for better blood sugar control.
The metformin and glimepiride combo may cause hypoglycemia, nausea, headache, and flu-like symptoms. It’s important to monitor blood sugar closely, as the risk of low glucose increases when used together.
Taking over 4 tablets of metformin 1000 mg and glimepiride 4 mg daily can cause serious overdose symptoms like drowsiness, confusion, low BP, seizures, or unconsciousness. Give sugary fluids or foods immediately and seek urgent medical care.
