Keppra belongs to a class of medications called anticonvulsants or antiepileptic drugs (AEDs). More specifically, it’s considered a broad-spectrum anticonvulsant, meaning it can help manage several different types of seizures (partial, generalized, tonic, clonic, and myoclonic).
This medicine is most often taken in tablet form, depending on the patient’s situation. Doctors often choose Keppra because it usually does not interfere with other medicines and is easy to use. It also acts quickly in the body. Even though some people may experience side effects, many tolerate it well. Overall, Keppra helps improve daily life for people with seizures by reducing severity and frequency. Over time, this can help people with epilepsy lead more stable, active lives with fewer disruptions from unexpected seizures.

Keppra is used to treat seizures like partial, generalized, clonic and myoclonic seizures.
Keppra helps control seizures by working on a special protein in the brain called SV2A. This protein plays a key role in how nerve cells send messages to each other. During a seizure, the brain’s electrical activity goes out of control, firing all at once. Keppra helps calm that firing outburst of signals. By attaching to the SV2A protein, Keppra changes the way certain brain chemicals (neurotransmitters) are released. This reduces the chances of nerves becoming overexcited. As a result, it becomes harder for a seizure to start or spread. Importantly,Keppra does all of this without affecting normal brain function. It helps keep brain signals stable and balanced, so a person is less likely to have seizures.
📌 Pregnancy
Pregnant women are not recommended to take Keppra, as there are no human studies supporting its safety during pregnancy. In case of an emergency, consult a doctor before using it.
📌 Breastfeeding
Keppra passes into breast milk. Tell your healthcare provider if you are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed. Your healthcare provider will advise you if you should stop breastfeeding or stop Keppra.
📌 Past Mental Health Issues

📌 Kidney and Liver Problem

Avoid alcohol and smoking, with this Keppra as they can alter drugs effect and may cause severe drowsiness and sedation because of their direct action on the brain.
