Cefpodoxime is used to treat bacterial infections in many different parts of the body. It belongs to the class of medicines known as cephalosporin antibiotics. It works by killing bacteria or preventing their growth.

Cefpodoxime 50 mg belongs to the group of cephalosporin antibiotics used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections of the ear, nose, throat, lower respiratory tract, urinary tract, skin, and soft tissue. Bacterial infections are caused due to the multiplication of harmful bacteria inside or on the body.

Warning: Do not use this medicine if you are previously allergic to it.

Drug drug interaction : cefpodoxime 50 mg may interact with diuretics (furosemide), blood thinner (warfarin), supplements (calcium/vitamin D), antacids (sodium bicarbonate, aluminium hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, cimetidine, ranitidine, loratadine), and drugs used to treat excess uric acid (probenecid).

Drug food interaction: Certain medicines should not be used at or around the time of eating food or eating certain types of food since interactions may occur. Using alcohol or tobacco with certain medicines may also cause interactions to occur. Discuss with your healthcare professional the use of your medicine with food, alcohol, or tobacco.

Drug disease interaction: Inform your doctor if you have C. difficile-associated disease (CDAD), colitis (inflammation in the lining of the colon), seizures (epilepsy), kidney or liver disease.

Antibiotics can alter the useful bacteria in the stomach, which help in digestion. Therefore, you are advised to take foods rich in probiotics such as yoghurt/curd, kefir, sauerkraut, tempeh, kimchi, miso, kombucha, buttermilk, natto and cheese.,,Eat fibre-rich food like whole grains, beans, lentils, berries, broccoli, peas and bananas.,,Avoid foods rich in calcium, grapefruit and grapefruit juice as they might hinder the absorption of antibiotics.

Do regular exercise such as cyclingbody walkingbody joggingbody dancing or swimming for a minimum of 30 minutes per day. Invest at least 150 minutes of your week in exercise.Avoid consumption of alcohol and quit smoking.

Keep the medication in a cool, dry place, away from light and moisture.

Swallow the tablet/capsule as a whole with water; do not crush, chew or break it.
