This drug is a combination of two anit-diabetic medicine, Metformin 500 mg and Glimepride 2 mg

Glimepiride belongs to a class of drugs known as sulfonylureas. It controls sugar by increasing the amount of insulin released by the pancreas. More insulin released means more sugar is broken down into easily digestible forms.

Metformin is a part of biguanides. This salt controls the amount of glucose in your blood. It does this in 2 ways: by lowering glucose production in the liver; and delaying the absorption of glucose from your ingested food. In turn, it increases the sensitivity of the body to insulin.

So together these two salts increase insulin’s effectiveness in the body thereby controlling sugar.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus also known as Diabetes Mellitus .

Metformin and glimepiride together help in controlling blood sugar levels in type 2 diabetes pts. They increase the sensitivity of the body to insulin and also control glucose production.

Inform your doctor about your diabetes treatment if you are due to have surgery under a general anesthetic.Your doctor may check your liver function regularly. Inform your doctor if you develop symptoms such as abdominal pain, loss of appetite, or yellowing of the eyes or skin (jaundice).You have been prescribed this combination medicine as it can control blood sugar better than metformin alone.

Drug-Drug Interaction - The drug drug interaction with antibiotics (rifampicin, trimethoprim), calcium channel blockers (verapamil), antacid (cimetidine), HIV/AIDS drugs (dolutegravir), Heart-medicine (ranolazine), anticancer(vandetanib, crizotinib, olaparib), antifungals (fluconazole, miconazole), Diuretic (acetazolamide), antidiabetic drug (insulin), anticonvulsants (phenytoin). Drug food interaction : It may interact with alcohol. Therefore, avoid consumption of alcohol with this tablet as it may increase the risk of lactic acidosis (accumulation of lactic acid in the body). Drug-Disease interaction : Inform your doctos if you have severe infections, uncontrolled diabetes, lactic acidosis or ketoacidosis (accumulation of ketone bodies in the blood), dehydration, liver or kidney problems.

It is unsafe to consume alcohol with Glimepiride 2 mg + metformin 500 mg tablets.Glimepiride 2mg + metformin 500 mg tablets may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Although there are limited studies in humans, animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby.Glimepiride 2 mg + metformin 500 mg Tablet is unsafe to use during breastfeeding. Data suggests that the drug may cause toxicity to the baby.Glimepiride 2 mg + metformin 500 mg tablets should be used with caution in patients with liver disease.

You can Monitor your blood sugar level with a glucometer regularly while you are taking this medicine. Your doctor may check your liver function regularly. Inform your doctor if you develop symptoms such as abdominal pain, loss of appetite, or yellowing of the eyes or skin (jaundice).Tell your doctor immediately if you experience any deep or rapid breathing or if you have persistent nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain as Glimepiride + Metformin may cause a rare but serious condition called lactic acidosis, which is an excess of lactic acid in the blood.

Do regular exercise such as cyclingbody walkingbody joggingbody dancing or swimming for a minimum of 30 minutes per day. Invest at least 150 minutes of your week in exercise.Maintain healthy body weight as obesity is also related to the onset of diabetes.Maintain a low fat and a low sugar diet. Replace carbohydrates containing foods with whole grainsbody fruits and vegetables as carbohydrates turn to sugars leading to high blood sugar.Avoid consumption of alcohol and quit smoking.

Store in a cool and dry place away from sunlight

You are advised to take this tablet for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you based on your medical condition. Swallow it as a whole with water; do not crush, break or chew it.
