directions
Prochlorperazine 5 mg is a medication primarily used to treat nausea and vomiting caused by various medical conditions, such as migraine headaches, chemotherapy, and post-operative nausea. It belongs to a class of drugs called phenothiazines, which work by blocking certain receptors in the brain associated with nausea and vomiting.
The medication comes in the form of tablets, with each tablet containing 5 mg of prochlorperazine as the active ingredient. The tablets are round, white, and marked with a score line on one side and "PLIVA" and "PROCHLORPERAZINE" on the other side.
This medication is usually taken by mouth, with or without food, as directed by a doctor. The usual recommended dose for adults is 5-10 mg every 6-8 hours as needed for nausea and vomiting. The maximum daily dose should not exceed 40 mg.
As with any medication, prochlorperazine can cause side effects, including drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, constipation, and blurred vision. It may also cause more serious side effects, such as movement disorders, seizures, and a potentially life-threatening condition called neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS).
